A Galen Historical Society Event

The April 26th Quarterly program, “The History of Life Reflected in the History of Art”, featuring stained glass artist Valerie O’Hara became a standing room only event. Visitors from Geneva, Lyons, Newark and Wolcott enjoyed our museum and fellowship sharing cookies and lemonade served by our Jr. Historians. Our windows were highlighted by Valerie and we found that some of the glass was rare to have survived since the early 1800’s..

The historical society did not get the grant as hoped so the board of directors voted to spend the $6,000 needed for work that should be done now to preserve our treasures. Work will begin in September to repair the broken panes, fix the sagging frames and replace the leading holding the glass together. Another $6,000 in work is suggested to be done within 5 to 10 years, which will give us time to request other grants to complete the project.

NOTE: Video of the Valerie O’Hara program and other past GSH programs are available at the Brick Church Museum and can be seen during our open hours. We will try to have copies of each program to loan to shut in’s and those who missed programs available to sign out for a short period of time.
