GHS Events: Springing into Summertime
Museum Schedule
Rose Jeanne Strakal will be calling members to schedule our docents for the summer schedule. Any questions regarding this please use the link on this site to send an email or call one of the board members listed on the front of the building. We will be open for Saturday and Sunday visits from 1-3 and during the farmers market held in the park from 5-7 on Thursday afternoons. We will respond to requests for tours or genealogy research when you call. If you have family or friends visiting the area and wish to show them the museum please call one of the members listed on the front of the buildings. We are proud of our museum and glad to get your calls. With volunteers it is impossible to be open daily like the museums with funding and paid staffing are able to do.
Girl Scout Display
The Girl Scout display is in the Brick Church to celebrate Girl Scout week. As usual they have a huge well thought out display that covers all areas of Girl Scout life. Saturday the 13th is the last chance to see the display from 10-1..

No Stained Glass Window Grant
Unfortunately we were not chosen to receive the grant to repair our stained glass windows. In talking to one of the administrators of the foundation I was told they received more requests this year than have ever received in their history. We were in competition with at least 40 others for grant monies. With the economy slump this last year funding for projects is a high priority for all. We ask our members to consider us for bequests or tax deductable donations.

"The History of Life Reflected in the History of Art"
Guest Speaker Valerie O’Hara April 26th 6 pm at the
Brick Church Museum 31 North Park Street Clyde, NY
Profile of Valerie O’Hara
Valerie O’Hara had the unique opportunity to be raised in a stained glass studio. From the age of 12, she apprenticed at the studio after school, learning from her parents who were both accomplished artists and renaissance individuals. Her mother, Norma Lee, sewed the costumes that were worn by the models, who posed for the figures in the windows. Her Father took photographs of the costumed models, developed the film and printed the pictures in their home darkroom, before using them to draw the cartoons (full size drawings) for the windows. Everyone takes their turn as posing, employees, relatives and friends alike! Aside from all of her education and training not available in today’s academic settings, Valerie graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1976. She majored in painting and minored in glass and woodworking through the School for American Craftsmen. In addition to commissioned work, Valerie creates paintings and glass sculptures, many of which have been exhibited and won awards throughout North America. Her work has been featured in the following publications: Valerie has taught and given presentations to many groups on the art, craft and history of stained glass, including a segment in the WXXI public television station’s series entitled "Crafts by Hand", as well as: Professional Affiliations (Profile copied with permission from http://pikestainedglassstudios.com/)
